Nah, you sicko, I mean that Jordan Kent does it with two hands. Ewww! You’ve got a one-track mind! I’m talking about how he dunks. Dunks the basketball. I don’t know I can even live with such peurile-ness.So the Hill came into South Eugene’s purple pit. Now, as me and Byerly are Churchill’s own Spike Lee, so we have to sit front row center for every game. Don’t believe that we work miracles? Churchill’s two losses (Thurston and national #1 Oak Hill Academy) came at two of the games I didn’t go to. Well, I went to the game tonight, and there was nothing unexpected. Jordan Kent had 22 points and 4 dunks…then the second half began. Ouch.

Here’s the worst part. At a timeout in the 2nd quarter (me and Josh were sitting a foot from the Coach, so we had a good spot to listen in), they spent the whole timeout planning an alley-oop to JK. Worked perfectly. Our school isn’t gonna win the sportmanship award again this year, though, heh. Before the game even started, Paul began chanting “It’s All O-ver!”, and in the 4th, everyone was going “Let’s Go, JV! Let’s Go, JV!” It was great. I love basketball. The real competition begins soon, though. Willamette, Sheldon and Thurston can all ball hardcore, though we should pick up wins. Everyone is waiting for last year’s All-State guard Joel Worcester to be healthy again, then we’ll really tear it up. We need to get Cary White back too; he had a pulled groin today. I must admit for South, though, that the Freshman JR Morgan is a mad baller. He’s gonna be awesome. Hopefully, he’ll transfer back to the Hill, cuz word on the street is that he went to South this year just to get some playing time in while he grows a little more.

My final comment on the contest: Regardless of how South performed on the court, I would have more respect except that it’s embarrasing that Hill had a ton more fans than South did at the game. The Away team should *never* have more fans!

Since we’re on a basketball trend, Church ball with Byerly is going sweet. We won 39-35 in a defensive battle last week, but this Saturday, we’re playing a team (Veneta) that we beat 73-30 earlier this season. Mwahaha, it’s gonna be wicked fun. Me and Byerly also start reffing this weekend for Y basketball! I can’t wait!

Wanna hear a wac story? I was down at “Unnamed”’s house (to spare the innocent) a little earlier, and talking with Matt about what I should do for my 18th b-day next week. Now, of course, since “Unnamed”’s mum was right there, we had to mention that it would involve taking up smoking and visiting the Castle Superstore (who woulda thunk that they don’t sell castles?). Here’s the bad part: She started giving us suggestions. Like, “You should check out the clothespins they sell, right to the left when you enter”, etc. Egads! Mums aren’t supposed to know that!

Want a free CD? Email me at kevincure@yahoo.com (or talk to me if you know me) if you want an extra copy of my New Year’s mix. It’s 76 minutes, continuous-mix, mainly bass-heavy electronica and trance anthems, with some rap. There are 19 tracks, some of which include the So Solid Crew Mix of Nelly Furtado’s “Turn Off the Light”, BT’s “Smartbomb”, the JS16 Dark Dub of Darude’s “Feel the Beat”, CJ Stone’s “Infinity”, the Dub Pistols’ “Soul Shaking (Conduct Disorder)” and Boston DJ’s “Move Your Body”.

We’re back to school today after my last high-school winter break *sniff sniff*. Ah well. My teachers were as out of it as we were, so it’s all right. Our 30-something year-old math teacher talked about (in succession) college football, drinking in college, making money of keggers and getting yelled at by his wife cuz he spent all of last Monday playing NCAA 2002 for the Playstation 2 with his father and brother-in-law. Chapter 4.1 was not on the agenda.

I was trying to learn some javascript this weekend and understand enough that I can make those internet tests that girls seem to be quite obsessed with now. Sweet! So, because I’m a guy and I couldn’t bring myself to make a test like “What type of Squirrel are You?”, I’ve constructed the greatest internet test ever: The What Demolition Man Character Are You? Test. You’ll either come out as Stallone, Wesley Snipes, Sandra Bullock, Dr. Cocteau or Bob (Cocteau’s Assistant). I was Stallone, but a bunch of my friends have come out as Bullock. Tis a sad sad time. If I can get some time, I’ll rig up another test for next week.

Jesus has a weblog. This has got to be one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen in my life. “And Dad’s all, ‘Oh, Son. You must be Holy. You are the Son of Me! It is not written that You can just go around smiting people whenever you feel like it! Now go get me a latte.’” Hilarious.

So Eyal was telling me yesterday not to make everything into a West Coast-East Coast thing, and I figured he was probably right. But there are *huge* differences between our sides of the raft. Like, my sister didn’t know till yesterday that “grey” is spelt with an a, and that there’s no “s” at the end of “backwards” and “towards”. I’m sure I could think of a ton more. Even though it’s technically incorrect, even some newspapers over there will spell words like that.

What’s even wierder is how we come to decisions (I’ll tie it in eventually, no worries). While I think that most subjects have a truth (or at least a better answer), it’s hard to know what that answer is. For instance, “Is Slavery good?” Even Aristotle had no qualms with slavery, but now it’s “well-known” societally that slavery is bad. While I believe this is true, I don’t think it’s possible to know whether this is true, or whether there’s so much societal pressure around us saying that this is true that we now think of it as such. Slavery is maybe a bad example, because things like modern genetics and all that have helped the cats of the world figure out that black guys and the King of England have pretty much the same DNA, but you know what I mean.

Now Hegel thought he had it worked out. Take the dialectic, or the middle ground. My politics are pretty middle-of-the-roadish (not for Eugene, but on the political spectrum), so I think I’ve probably done this with many issues already. The trouble is that this doesn’t allow change. The dialectic wouldn’t have told you to get rid of slavery or to let women out of the house unaccompanied in Kabul.

What’s even worse is that the dialectic varies from place to place. As someone who has lived in a city in Mass., in relatively rural Maine and on the West Coast, I can 100% guarantee that philosophies and political ideas that many of my buds in Eugene think of as “average” would be considered quite extremist in most of the rest of the country. Society affects everything, thought-wise. There’s a reason that no one thought of Muhammad in Siberia in 700 AD as the truth, and that’s because there was nothing in society telling that person that that’s the truth.

As far as philosophy goes, a lot of people say that the best way to go is simply not to judge. How can you judge a philosophy or a truth statement unless you’ve had the experiences X people have had, they say. Well, that doesn’t work either. When *you* choose one truth to believe in, you are by default saying that the other options are not true (or less likely to be true, to be more precise).

I don’t know if I have a point here, but I think it’s that, when looking at politics or philosophy or sociology or whatever, it’s absolutely critical to look outside of your own local society, because their dialectic is going to be far different, more than likely, from the rest of the world. Believing in something your parents believe in is not a good way to choose philosophies (though it’s almost impossible to ignore beliefs you’ve had since you were young).

All right, I got nothing left to say.

MP3 Prime Cut: Call It Fate by Richie Dan
Great new two-step song, better even that Daniel Bedlingfield. The “Call it fate, call it what you want; you might try to fight the feeling, but I know you can’t” is damnigly addictive, though. It’s been in my head for two days.MP3 Prime Cut Extra: Perfectionists by Invincible ft/ Helixx
“Intricate, using my vocal chords to open doors, you is a hopeless cause, leave you with a broken jaw, cause applause to come in cycles like menopause”. Yep, that’s right, it’s female rap. Great lyricism on this track. What else do I like this week? How about “It’s Going Down” by the X-Ecutioners w/ Linkin Park, which is what good rap/rock would sound like, “Emergency” by Evidence, a great rap song, “Joyrider” by Colourgirl, some female two-step, and finally the male-vocaled house monster “Happiness” by Bini + Martini.
