Now here’s an article that should be required reading: Us soccer fans are better at sex. The rational goes that basketball and football fans are used to quick spurts of excitement, whereas soccer fans are more interested in 89 minutes of parrying and midfield play before an orgasmic 90th minute strike to the top left corner. If that’s not scientific, then I don’t know what is.My school won the district Co-Ed Tennis Championship, with my guys’ team taking 3rd in the contest. I won my first round contest (against this chump who sucked immensely, heh. During the league season, the guy on our team played him left-handed and won easily). In the 2nd round, I had the #3 seed in the district, but I played really good, even though I lost. Good times.
I wonder if Adolf Hitler painted with the expreSSionist style. I bet if he would have had a good agent, he could have taken over Europe with his dynamic style. He unleashed a fuhrer among those who disagrees with his new interpretations of the human condition. It was too bad his art bombed on the critical art market.
We played a game called Commandos last night (me, Byerly, Chatfield and Eric). It’s basically a survival marathon. You start at Churchill’s Parking Lot and the finish line is the Friendly St. Church (about 3 miles away as the bird flies, though much longer with the convoluted route we took), with boundaries of 18th St. and 25th St. (for a 3 sq. mile course). About 80 people were on foot running, with 5 cars with 4 people in each chasing. If you’re tagged by a guy from a car, you’re through. Me and Byerly took off at the start (I’m not sure where Eric and Chatty went) and found some nice routes. We kept having to dive behind a tree (or into pricker bushes, in one case) every time a car came by. Wicked adrenaline, heh.
The last mile or so is the hardest, because there’s a park that goes from 18th to 24th, so you basically only have 3 routes, unless you want to go through the park, which is suicide. There was one car with a giant searchlight driving through the park in case you decided to go that way. We got to 24th and Polk (about 4 blocks from the finish) when some stupid kids ran into the place we hiding while being chased. So me and Byerly had to take off. We got about a couple blocks before Byerly tripped and bloodied himself (and got caught, of course). I hid behind a house, but I was seen by 3 people, all of whom were pretty fast. I took off, and made a brilliant cut, so I was able to get about 3 blocks (albeit in the wrong direction from the goal) before getting caught. Wicked fun. Although I realize I’d be dead if I was an actual commando.
The guys in the car seem to be everywhere, because they all drive like 50 or 60. In neighboorhoods where the speed limit is 25, of course. A bunch of people are also stupid, and they hop fences and break them all the time. Me and Josh kept to the roads and paths only, and still did wicked good. We noticed the police were starting to come out around 11:40PM, right when we were leaving (we started at 10PM), no doubt because of all the complaints, heh. Wicked fun.
Wheaton College sent me a viewbook the other day. On the first page, it said “At Wheaton, there are 135 faculty, equally split between men and women”. I kid you not. Apparently, Wheaton must be leading the world in Quantum Mathematics, because they’ve managed to create something which is both “tea” and “not tea” at the same time. I think I need to do a college that’s that much on the cutting edge.
Holy pissa’, am I jealous of some of these schools I noticed. For instance, this High School in Hong Kong. It’s incredible! Or how about the sport facilities at Singapore American? What’s even more amazing is that the tuition is only about what some states pay per student already. This is one of the ways where I think private industry could do schools better. They have to either put up or go out of business. Speaking about that, my town needs an IB only school. There’s certainly enough demand on both IB and on the public schools (the attendance at Churchill has gone from 900 in 1994 to 1500 and rising today, with no capital improvements).
MP3 Prime Cut: Drops of Jupiter by Train
Radio-friendly but interesting alt-rock song
MP3 Prime Cut 2: Hardcore Vibes by Dune
Elite happy hardcore song with a dub-like vocalization. I’ve also heard two other really good songs in Look At Us by Sarina Paris and Strike by Red Racing.
