So I’m back from the East Coast. I was born in lovely Dorchester, for those of you that don’t me. Nice ghetto-town in Boston, so I’m pretty familiar with the Coast, but I did need to look at a bunch of colleges, which was pretty fun. Apologies for the paucity of links, but, hey, I didn’t have a computer to be getting any good links from. The trip didn’t start well. Airplane service is a joke, especially when you’re flying American, heh. My mum made the mistake of ordering me the vegetarian meal. The airlines seem to think that “vegetarian” means “non-eater”, since we never get dessert, we never get butter with our bread, etc. (Although I’m not a vegetarian, since I eat those damn fine Chicken McNuggets. God bless McDonalds). Anyway, my meal was, I kid you not, Raisins and Rice.
That is what is sounds like. They took rice. Then they mixed in raisins. Perhaps, somewhere, in some faraway corner of the globe, this was once eaten. I doubt it, though. More likely, raisins and rice were both cheap last week.
Anyway, I looked at a bunch of colleges. Here’s the rundown, to save anyone else looking the time (I’m prob’ly gonna do International Business Management or Political Science (for Pre-Law)):
- Boston University: The campus is *really* long. It’s 7 subway stops from one end to the other. Heh, the college is 3 blocks wide and 1.7 miles long. I liked the management school: It’s brand new and all the classrooms are set up like a boardroom. The college also has cool Study Abroad. It is filled with rich kids, though. Ah well. I need a big scholarship to pay for this.Brown: For an Ivy League school, this place was shit. There was peeling pain everywhere. The sport facilities were only ok. The people looked wicked stressed out. The dorms were mediocre. It is cool that you can take classes at RISD, though, as it’s the best architecture place in the world. This whole incident was going on when I was there, too. I hate those damn hippies who think that free speech only applies to those they agree with. Bastards.
Tufts: I didn’t spend much time here, but it looked really mediocre. And Somerville is boring anyway. I hear the diplomacy school is ace, though.
New York University: I was wicked disappointed by this place. It’s got tons of cool stuff, like bathrooms in every room, a great business school, good study abroad, and an administration that provides *tons* of perks (like a Club Med beach party for all the students last year). However, *all* of the students were ugly. Not to sound mean, but they were all cigarette-smoking, makeup covered, sickly pale, unathletic and unhappy-looking people. It was wierd. I didn’t like it.
Princeton: Now we’re getting somewhere. Aside from the fact that it’s impossible to get into and there’s no business undergrad school, there’s nothing wrong with this place. Good food, good dorms, beautiful campus and great classes. The kids seemed to *really* like it, too. Everyone was happy and tons of people were sporting Princeton shirts. You can tell people are happy at a college if they’re sporting the colors.
Georgetown: I was worried cuz this school has religion requirements. But it’s cool. Like, you can take “The Problem With God”, which discusses if believing in God is viable scientifically, or you take a class that examines the validity of historical claims in the Qu’ran. It’s tight. The one bad thing is that the administration is supposedly very unresponsive. The classrooms were ugly, too. And there’s really few sport facilities.
George Washington: Right in the heart of DC. I liked this place. All the people there seemed really psyched about the school. You get a private bath in your dorm, which rocks. The business and intl. relations schools are good. And you can intern in places like the State Department. There’s also a big hype about studying abroad, which is good. This school is less hard to get into, so I hope I can score a good scholarship here.
Wake Forest and Davidson: While I’m not interested in going to school in the South, I did visit these N. Carolina schools. Both are sorta away from the city, and heavily focused on frats, but both seemed to be really focused on the kids. The facilities were great at both schools. I didn’t pay attention much other than that, but I guess if you’re interested to go South, these are two of the best (along with New School of South Florida, Miami, Rice and Duke).
I have a new thing for tennis. I lost some dead easy matches cuz I kept getting angry. So now I play “Buddhist tennis”. Basically, I don’t say anything, and I try to be wicked focused on the court. I’ve won 6-0,6-0,6-0,6-1 since I started, so it’s working. That’s my tip: Play tennis like the Buddha, heh. (Although he was a fat man, so play tennis like a buddha who hits the gym in between his meditation sessions).
I bet that Bayern were sweating thier balls off. Last year, they had a 1-0 advantage against Man U in the last minute and managed to lose 2-1. Good that they pulled it off.
A bunch of my chicos have decided to be elite and have weblogs too. Go check out Tyler and Travis’, Andrea’s and Sarah’s.
Ok, that’s too much to write. I’ll post again sometime soon.
MP3 Prime Cut: Midtown by A Faulty Foundation
Fly punk song. It sounds like H20, but a little slower.
MP3 Prime Cut: The Drop by Minister
Really elite trance that sounds like Mauro Picotto a bit. Both these bands are from mp3.com, btw, which is always free, Napster or no.
